Eralin is formed by several different duchies, of which some have switched hands over the years. The country has been without a king for the past 30 years and watched over by the Kings Guard of which there is now only 1 remaining, and Ser Charron is old. The reason there is no king is because the line of succession is unclear, each noble has their own claims but no one has any definite proof and anyone seizing the throne without proof would be deemed a usurper. When Ser Charron dies the power-vacuum will result in civil war.
The Code of Chivalry is a set of rules and laws that the country follows. It includes rules like “don’t lie”, “don’t steal”, “don’t cheat”, “face your opponents head on” and other honorable things but it does not state that you have to “protect the weak” or “help everyone”. Anyone breaking this code will be punished.
Each of the castleholders are responsible for their own lands and the laws in their lands even though they are part of a greater duchy and a greater kingdom.
Only a King/Queen can make or unmake Nobles, except if the noble is caught breaking the code.
Only a King/Queen can say that a county-law is unjust.
You have to be a noble to own land.
Religious belief is generally down to individual preferences and generally polytheistic, where you say a prayer to the relevant god as you engage in their domain rather than stringent worship of a single god (though clerics et al. still choose a patron god). Because of this, public places of worship typically have a large alcoved hall in which each of the major beliefs have been allocated to its own shrine within each alcove. This lets each deity recieve due praise without infringing upon other worshippers. The main altar of religious buildings are usually dedicated to the dominant patron of the community. Closed or secret shrines exist dedicated to a single deity, these are typically dedicated to the forbidden deities or cults.
Openly worshiped deities: Avandra, Bahamut, Bane, Corellon, Erathis, Ioun, Kord, Melora, Moradin, Pelor, The Raven Queen, Sehanine.
Forbidden deities: Asmodeus, Gruumsh, Lolth, Tharizdun, Tiamat, Torog, Vecna, Zehir.
The worship of demons and primordial are considered a crime punishable by death.
